PERSPECTIVE...

Hello,

My name is Stew Crossen. Owner, manager, producer, engineer, bookkeeper, webmaster and janitor of the Voice Over Workshop LLC. This isn't a big Hollywood or New York City operation. There's no expensive, high rise rent or plush office suites. I'm located in the rolling hills of Vernon, Connecticut, 14 miles east of Hartford and I work out of a comfortable and well equipped home studio.

I'm not an affiliated with any of the overcrowded voice over supermarkets or dizzying array of freelance super sites. My feeling is that if you want a high level of experience, quality, service and confidentiality... you probably aren't looking over there.

I won't try to impress you with soaring rhetoric about how great I am or by boasting about the four awards I've received. And I won't waste your time with photographs or stories about me hobnobbing with rock stars and celebrities.

Why? Well frankly if that's what it takes to get your business, then I'm not sure we'll make a good team. Because it's not about me. It's about you, your business and your story.

As a small studio owner, I try to earn your business by being attentive and listening carefully. Then following it up with creativity, quality and passion. This is my life and my career. I won't try to get your business with low bids or by cutting corners.

Small doesn't mean limited. With over 40 years of experience in entertainment, radio and TV, I have a network of world-class associates. Voice actors, singers, musicians, engineers, film makers, writers, comics, cartoonists, computer progammers, web techs and graphic designers. With this network, you get complete solutions from concept and writing, to voices and music, through final production and installation.

HISTORY...

I started the Voice Over Workshop in 1992 with a few business cards, a voice-over demo tape and a four-track recorder. At that time, I was a musician for over 30 years, received three awards as a televison show host and producer, and was working in radio. In 2008, I received a KBA award for Radio.

Back in the day, other than cartoons and Hollywood movies, voice-over had yet to become the huge industry it is today. Getting voice work was basically limited to TV and Radio commercials. Without the Internet, email or cell phones, it wasn't so easy to find out where the jobs were or who was producing. Work came mostly by knowing someone, who knew someone, who knew someone.

Times have changed. The communications industry exploded. Albums gave way to CDs, video tapes became DVDs, cell phones, PCs and iPods became everyday items. The need for voice-overs also exploded and opened up a lot of opportunities for talented and creative voice actors.

Fast forward to 2009. The world of voice-over continues to expand rapidly every day with new ideas and needs for the spoken word and recorded voice. From simple phone systems to complex on-line tutorials, from funny radio commercials to serious audiobooks and much more.
